Siri's Super Bowl Flop: AI Assistant Fails Quiz
Ouch. Siri just took a major fumble in a recent test of its Super Bowl knowledge. A test conducted by Paul Kafasis revealed some glaring inaccuracies in Apple's AI assistant, raising questions about its reliability compared to competitors like ChatGPT.
Siri's Super Bowl Struggles: A 34% Score
Kafasis put Siri to the test, asking it to name the winners of every Super Bowl from I to LX (60). The results? A disappointing 20 correct answers out of 58, a mere 34% accuracy rate. Siri's responses were often completely wrong or irrelevant, with one particularly embarrassing moment where it incorrectly named the Philadelphia Eagles as the winners of Super Bowl XXXIII (they've only won once).
A String of Errors and a ChatGPT Plug
Siri's performance was especially weak between Super Bowls XVII and XXXII, where it failed a staggering 15 times in a row. At one point, Siri even suggested users ask ChatGPT for the correct answers! This highlights a significant gap in knowledge compared to other AI systems.
How Siri Stacks Up Against the Competition
John Gruber of Daring Fireball compared Siri's performance to other platforms, including Google, ChatGPT, and DuckDuckGo. These competitors consistently provided accurate answers. Gruber also pointed out that older versions of Siri at least provided links to reliable sources, a feature that's now missing, making Siri's mistakes even less forgivable.
"Confidently Wrong" Answers: A Problem of Trust
Gruber criticized Siri for giving "confidently wrong" answers. This is a crucial issue, as these responses sound plausible but are incorrect, potentially misleading users and damaging trust in the AI assistant.

Apple's Plan for Siri's Comeback: iOS 19 and a New LLM
Apple is aware of Siri's shortcomings and is reportedly working on a major overhaul using an advanced language model (LLM). This upgraded Siri is expected to debut at WWDC 2025 alongside iOS 19, promising improved accuracy and more natural conversations.
Can Apple Reclaim Siri's Reputation?
Siri's recent struggles raise serious concerns about its reliability. With competitors setting higher standards, Apple needs to address these issues quickly to avoid falling behind.
